St. Joan of Arc School Welcomes New Principal!
Saint Joan of Arc School is pleased to welcome Mr. John
Fruner as its New Principal! Mr. Fruner has been working
with Msgr. Garcia, Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Balzano, Mrs. King, Mrs. Fitzgerald
our Director of Faith Formation, Sr. Maryann our Pastoral Associate along
with Linda and Teresita of our Rectory staff during these summer
months to learn about all the accomplishments of our school, faculty,
and students.
He has met many teachers and students who took part in the school’s summer school as well as those enjoying the parish’s Catholic Summer Camp. With 25 years in education right here in the Diocese of Brooklyn, Mr. Fruner has gained experience in teaching, administration, parish ministry, and social work. Though he has had the pleasure to serve in various capacities in Catholic schools and parishes, Mr. Fruner has the heart of a teacher.
He earned an undergraduate degree in Human Services and two Master's degrees, one in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University, and another in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton, both Jesuit Universities. Presently, Mr. Fruner is studying for a Doctorate (PhD) in Educational Leadership (with a concentration in K-12 leadership) from TUI University, an affiliate of Touro College here in New York. He also holds a New York and North Carolina social worker’s license in clinical social work.
Mr. Fruner has taught in St. Joseph, St. Cecilia, and Most Precious Blood Schools in the Diocese of Brooklyn, and most recently in St. Margaret Mary School in the Archdiocese of New York. He has served as Director of Faith Formation in St. John the Evangelist, Our Lady of Grace, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Churches in our Diocese as well. Mr. Fruner has been part time Pastoral Associate at St. Athanasius in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn for the last 7 years. He comes to us with a love of teaching and a desire to continue to keep Catholic education strong here in our parish as well as in the Diocese of Brooklyn.
St. Joan of Arc School Announces the Appointment of Assistant Principal
Msgr. Garcia and Mr. Fruner announce the appointment of Mr. Michael Donovan as Assistant Principal. Mr. Donovan, a well respected and dedicated member of the St. Joan of Arc School faculty, has taught at St. Joan of Arc for twenty five years. He holds a master's degree in Education with a concentration in Secondary Education. Mr. Donovan additionally holds permanent teacher certification here in New York State. He has begun a second master's degree in Educational Administration. Mr. Donovan, like Mr. Fruner, has the heart of a teacher, and will remain teaching sixth grade. He and Mr. Fruner will share some teaching responsibility in the sixth grade. Mr. Donovan provides St. Joan of Arc School with many gifts and talents.
Both Mr. Fruner and Mr. Donovan look forward to welcoming all students back to school this Fall. They especially join the St. Joan of Arc School family in welcoming their new sisters and brothers who join this family from Blessed Sacrament School. With these new sisters and brothers, St. Joan of Arc is excited to welcome back a Gray Nun of the Sacred Heart, Sister Alma Regina Murtha.
